The Montreal Skeptics March Meetup
Update: Meetup postponed one week. Is Obesity a Health Crisis in the Making? The rate of Canadians who are obese has nearly doubled in the last thirty years, mirroring a worldwide trend. In our next meetup I hope to debate what has truly caused this rise, and whether this rise correlates with a reduction in life expectancy. Topics of discussion will include whether there truly is an "obesity virus" that causes people to get fat, the effect of bariatric surgery (stomach stapling) on health, nutritional myths, the utility of the BMI index, and efforts to reduce weight gain in populations that rely on scare tactics, shaming, and dodgy science. Hope to have you, Josine
