Photoluminescent Materials

Photoluminescent material is excellent for safety sinage manufacturing. It is highly visible in case of power failure, can provide good indication for personnel evacuation, even under fume. In 911 terrorism attacks in 2001, the photoluminescent materials, which were widely installed in the World Trade Centers, played a vital role in evacuating nearly 18,000 people out of the building. So, one component of New York Local Law 26 of 2004 mandates the retroactive installation of photoluminescent signs and markings in high rise office buildings before July 1, 2006, and requires that the Commissioner of Buildings adopt a reference standard establishing the technical standards for the installation and placement of the standards before January 1, 2006. Photoluminescent pigments can be dispensed into coating, paint, ink, fabric, ceramic glaze or porcelain enamel, glass, flexible and rigid molded plastics. Typical products include self adhesive flexible vinyl tapes, rigid PVC marking strips, and silk-screened signage.
